Celebrating a decade of impact: Climate Investment Funds Video Series

Background
Climate Investment Funds (CIF) approached Rooftop in 2019 with the objective of creating a documentary video series to celebrate its 10-year anniversary and increase global awareness of the organisation’s work
CIF, with its massive $8.3 billion investment in climate projects, had been making significant strides in promoting clean energy and climate resilience in over 70 developing countries.
However, despite these efforts, CIF was relatively unknown, and they wanted to change this perception through an engaging, storytelling approach. The main goal was to highlight CIF’s diverse projects across seven countries – Colombia, Chile, Zambia, India, Nepal, Morocco, Ghana, and Mozambique – demonstrating the transformative effects of these projects on local communities and the environment.
Challenge
Overcoming diverse challenges in filming across multiple countries:
The project faced a variety of challenges, starting with the diverse and often remote locations of the featured countries. Each country presented its own unique set of circumstances, from language barriers to logistical hurdles in getting small film crews on location in sometimes challenging environments.
Collaborating with local fixers and translators was essential in order to capture authentic interviews and project footage. Additionally, the team had to ensure the storytelling approach resonated with both local audiences and a broader global viewership, emphasising the universal importance of climate action.
Finally, tight timelines were a constant factor, requiring efficient management of resources and seamless coordination across multiple teams.
Solution
Collaborative filmmaking:
Rooftop’s solution involved a multi-faceted video production strategy that incorporated on-location filming, expert storytelling, and a mix of documentary-style visuals. Small, agile film crews were dispatched to each of the seven countries, where they worked closely with local fixers and translators to capture the authenticity of each project. These intimate and impactful interviews were combined with footage showcasing CIF’s renewable energy investments in solar parks, geothermal plants, hybrid buses, and more.
The team produced a flagship documentary that captured CIF’s global impact while also creating country-specific videos that focused on individual key projects. These included, for example, the Cerro Pabellón geothermal plant in Chile and the Noor Ouarzazate solar plant in Morocco. Teaser clips were also created to engage audiences on social media, driving awareness and engagement. The final product was a powerful, dynamic video series that not only illustrated CIF’s work but also inspired hope for the future of sustainable energy.
The final product was a powerful, dynamic video series that not only illustrated CIF’s work but also inspired hope for the future of sustainable energy.
The Result
The video series highlighted key projects that have contributed to sustainable development, such as renewable energy investments, biogas systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure. These efforts have not only fostered climate resilience but also provided tangible benefits to local communities by improving access to clean energy and creating jobs.
The impact of the videos was significant, with increased public awareness of CIF’s work and its role in fostering long-term sustainability. The video series served as an effective advocacy tool, building momentum for continued climate investments and partnerships across the globe.
