Rooftop is looking for a talented cinematographer and video editor to join our production team. This dual role will include a wide variety of projects including documentary filmmaking, commercial shoots and editing. As a cinematographer/camera operator for domestic and international shoots, you’ll be tasked with capturing authentic stories and then bringing them to life on the timeline as an editor. There will also be many other pure editing projects that will need your touch.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A portfolio of past work showcasing editing skills.
• Grade 12/Matric.
• Tertiary education or relevant qualification in production, cinematography or video editing is advantageous.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of three years’ cinematography and editing experience.
• Knowledge/understanding of storytelling principles.
• Experience in documentary/human interest filmmaking.
• Experience on commercial film sets (preferable).
• Knowledge and experience in the technical aspects of camera and audio work.
• A good understanding of the latest filming technology and software.
• After Effects experience is advantageous.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Research, planning and prepping for upcoming shoots.
• Working with team members, clients, talent and interviewees on location.
• Travelling shoots for up to two weeks at a time.
• Capturing and editing compelling stories.
• Working creatively with stock footage in edits.
• Combining graphics, audio, grading and text into the edit.
• Continuously discovering and implementing new editing technologies and industry best practices to maximise efficiency.
